Have you ever seen dogs in cars not wearing a dog seat belt?
Unfortunately, it’s as common as people texting while driving. Texting while driving can kill you and your dog, so can your dog not wearing a pet seat belt.
Drive down almost any road and you will see not only dogs not using a dog car harness, they will often be hanging out of a window! You don’t know what you don’t know. However, almost no one would allow their child to not use a seat belt, let alone hang out of the window of a moving vehicle.
This is extremely dangerous, right?
If this makes you mad don’t ever drive down the 405 in Los Angeles. This has got to be one of the worst places where people are doing everything but really driving. You will see people driving while commuting to work eating bowls of cereal, having video calls, looking at the passenger more than the road and even people curling their hair while driving.
Not wearing a dog seat belt is deadly.
Given the unfortunate and deadly situation that so many people are doing everything while driving BUT driving, is even more of a reason to want your pet wearing a dog seat belt. One of the reasons why dogs end up needed a dog wheelchair is that they get hit by a car. Another reason is that the dog was involved in a car accident while they were driving in the car. They were probably not wearing any type of dog car restraint. Studies show that driving only 30mph and stopping quickly can kill a dog, if they are not wearing a dog car harness.
Please get your furry friend a dog seat belt
Dog seat belts range in price. The effectiveness also varies from company to company. However, any dog car harness is better than nothing. At the very least, you should have your dog wearing a walking harness and sitting in the back seat. You can buy a climbing carabiner (needs to be load bearing) and connect it to a seat belt that is closed. Then you should attach the climbing carabiner to your dogs harness. This may very well end up saving your dog’s life!
