Glucosamine is a natural compound found in connective tissues, along with other substances including Chondroitin. MSM is an organic sulfur found in plants, animals and humans. First off, you should make sure the supplements are lab grade glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM sourced from the U.S. Many products coming from China are harmful and contain dangerous chemicals and bacteria. It’s better to pay more money for a product that works and for sure won’t make your dog sick or worse.

There are very few observed side effects. Some potential side effects include:

  • Allergies – dogs that are allergic to shellfish since this is a source of these
  • Dogs with diabetes – do not use sugar based substances
  • Excessive thirst and urination – only in high doses
  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia

What is the recommended dose of dog glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM?

*These doses are guidelines and can be adjusted based on your dog’s needs. If your dog has severe arthritis a larger dose may be appropriate. These doses are not approved nor regulated by the FDA, since they are not pharmaceutical drugs.
